Ocean Maya Royale, Riviera Maya

Room: I stayed in a Privilege Honeymoon Maya Deluxe. The room was small but clean. There are no power outlets near the bed. I was in building 37, which was close to the beach and Privilege restaurants, both of which I appreciated. However, my room faced the resort next door, and it played very loud music. Not a big deal, but the peephole on the door was very high. It must have been placed by someone who is seven feet tall. Beach: This isn't a very swimmable beach, but that was fine by me. It's still pretty to look at and the employees cleaned up seaweed daily. I stayed on the privileged beach in a Bali bed during most waking hours. There was a nice beach butler and there was also food and drink service. Service: I found all of the resort staff to be friendly and helpful. As mentioned above, the beach service was better than I've seen at similar resorts. They do have shuttles that can drive you, but there are only one of two available. I had a knee issue and it was quite a walk to get to some of the restaurants. One night we got a ride to our dinner reservation, but then we were told it would be a 40 minute wait to get a ride back to the rooms. Another night it was very rainy and they said they couldn't even give an estimate on how long of a wait it would be, since evening was trying to get a ride. Room service was booked a couple of hours out. The grounds flooded and it was difficult to walk anywhere without walking through large pools of water. Food: Nothing was bad, but I didn't find anything the whole week that I thought was fantastic. Overall, I enjoyed my week and would return in the future.

Opted to do a pros/cons list of the resort as often find I dont take the time to read the longer reviews. But overall, whilst the resort was really nice and the staff and entertainment team made the holiday what it was, we probably wouldnt return to OMR, mainly due to the food and the outdated rooms. Pros: - Entertainment team were fantastic. The best Ive seen at any resort. Special mention to Jules & Adela who were really personable and great to be around. But Alex & Kendall also make lots of efforts and were great too. Plenty of different activities to participate in throughout the day. - Teppanyaki restaurant was great, went 3 times as always enjoyed the experience. - The beach itself was nice, the beaches either side of the resort had a lot of seaweed which brought guests from other hotels to our beachfront which wasnt always great as some would bring their kids (came for adults only) - Drinks were generally good, nice selection of cocktails and bar staff very knowledgeable - Towel service at the pool was nice being able to swap these whenever they were over used - Didnt have to get up any earlier than 7-7:30 to reserve sun beds - Mikes Coffee Bar & the Ice Cream Parlour added an extra something to the resort. Particularly the coffee bar, I am an early riser so was great to be able to get a coffee at 6am - The gym facilities were one of the best Ive seen in any resort - Mini bar replenishment every day was nice (included 2 x Sol beers as well as water and other soft drinks) - Wildlife on the resort was good to see (Iguanas, Coatis, Deer and more) Cons: - The food in general was pretty average but poor in some restaurants. Specifically the food in the Blue Moon & Mexican restaurants was not great. - I got really ill for a 24 hour period which I suspected was due to some dodgy seafood served at lunch. No way of verifying this but a couple we spoke to also fell ill from eating the same food at lunch (shrimp risotto). My partner didnt eat this and didnt get ill so some plausibly in it. - Expect to be asked if you want to buy drugs multiple times each day by the beach but even in the pool areas. Could be as I am a male in my early 30s but could be everyone that is asked. This was disappointing that the lifeguards allowed these people around the pool areas. On one occasion I saw a waiter buy something suspicious from one of these vendors but also a small package was given to a lifeguard where I didnt see cash exchanged so perhaps the lifeguards are paid off by these vendors. These vendors seemed to have the real deal as one without prompting showed me a big bag of weed and they walked around smoking joints almost asif to promote their product. - A La Carte restaurants closed 1-2 days a week so had to plan meals in advance - Evening entertainment was fairly poor. Pretty sure 3 of the dance acts in a week were performed by the same group. Some of the entertainment being in an indoor theatre regardless of the weather. - Electronic food tags in buffet consistently wrong making it difficult to know what you were choosing between - Buffet tongs used across any foot items so plenty of cross contamination and issues if anyone has allergies - Mexican time used as an excuse for many different things not being on time (breakfast buffet opening, reservation booking for the Teppanyaki, excursion pickup time, just to name a few). - Rooms were quite outdated (shower wasnt great, balcony the same, toilet door not offering any privacy)

We recently returned from a week vacation at Ocean Maya Royale. The resort is spaced out but everything is within decent walking distance. Sidewalks along the woods need fixing as this could be a tripping hazard esp after a few drinks! The rooms were clean and spacious, the lobby bar bartenders Octavia and Jorge were absolutely fabulous! Carlos in the Mexican restaurant was a fabulous server! The food was good but could have many improvements. Theme nights are nice but there is not alot of change of food in the buffet and the closed, heavy pots are not sanitary friendly with everyone having to open and close them to see what is in there. There needs to be more than one option for breakfast other than the buffet if you are not privilege. Had we known this we would have considered upgrading. A a la carte breakfast place for all would be a great addition. Mikes coffee is a grab and go breakfast but only a few items available. We arrived late in the afternoon from the airport and the only food option we had after 3:00 was nachos, a burger or hot dog in the sports bar. They have a beautiful outdoor pizza oven that could be used for making food that is just taking up space. The staff is always working very hard so there was never an issue with that. Reservations are not needed for all restaurants but the Japanese but a party of 8 cannot easily get in for dinner. The wildlife on sight is a very sweet addition to the resort! All around it was a great vacation but hopefully they add better food options and it would be our pleasure to return!

What a pleasant surprise! We take 2-3 trips to Cancun/PDC per year for the last 12+ years and this was our first time at OMR. This is an excellent resort. The small size means you can get anywhere quickly and easily. We loved the bungalow style housing and had an unobstructed ocean view which was phenomenal and steps from the sand, pool and 3 restaurants. Privilege is exactly that, a true Privilege and we will always choose this level as OMR truly provides a special level of service for this category including an entire oceanside restaurant serving breakfast, lunch and dinner exclusively for Privilege level guests. All the food was good to very good, at all of the restaurants. The beach is rock free, clean and easily swimmable. We did not spend any time at the party pool but the quiet pool was absolutely our speed as was the Privilege beach where were were well taken care of every day. The employees were truly happy to provide excellent service. The employees at OMR are the true stars of this spectacular show! Special mention to Fabian Flores, our concierge/butler for the week. Fabian excels at his job, period. What a great guy. Ilsa (I), Ilsa (II) & Carolina at Privilege restaurant provided excellent service, remembered our names, what we like to eat/drink, our dog's name (!!!) and were all smiles, every day. Jorge, beach concierge could not have been more pleasant and helpful, every day. Roberto at Privilege check in went so far above and beyond to make sure our vacation was perfect-we are forever in his debt. We have found a new home at OMR and look forward to returning later this year. Thank you OMR-what a perfect vacation!

This was our first stay at an all-inclusive resort and let me tell you it was an amazing experience and far exceeded our expectations. We cautiously traveled to OMR based on the outstanding recommendation of a friend as they were planning their repeat visit to OMR within a six month timeframe. My wife and I were not sure what to expect, but the entire staff at OMR appeared to not want to be outdone by any other resort. The customer service from the entire staff from check-in to check-out was spot-on, they were attentive and when possible included a personal touch. I would be remiss if I did not mention the star of the resort, Mr. Kendal-icious from the blue team! This young man is a large reason this resort has so many loyal and repeat guests. His unique ability to connect with everyone at the resort (worldwide clientele) was quite impressive. His energy, ability to include everyone regardless of the activity, and most of all his genuine friendliness and kindness was quite remarkable. OMR would be wise to keep him as happy as he keeps their guests! There were other stars at the resort and I would also like to recognize them for their efforts here: the pool bar stars were Miguel and Ebher; Sports Bar star was Crostobel who learned how to make a "La Batanga" just for me and then never let a glass not be filled with one; others stars notably on the blue team were Andrea, Adela, Grecia, Jules, Alexander, and Margarita; Buffet staff star was Carla. The OMR room was comfortable, clean, and more than sufficient for the little amount of time we spent in it. OMR has so many activities and things to do throughout the day and evening that it was a non-issue for us. We will definitely be returning to OMR in the near future and look forward to seeing if the staff can top this amazing vacation with their limitless energy and enthusiasm.
